The 2022 EUSPA Earth Observation and GNSS Market Report is here! For the first time ever, we are combining Copernicus, EGNOS, and Galileo market and application insights into one single publication, a resource dedicated to our global user community from 17 different EU Space market segments. Our Executive Director Rodrigo da Costa and Head of Market, Downstream & Innovation Fiammetta Diani presented the key highlights at the 14th European Space Conference.
 
Highlights from the 14th European Space Conference
  • More space for European Entrepreneurship! EUSPA, European Commission, European Investment Fund, and ESA pledged to foster the implementation of the CASSINI fund and support pioneering space-tech companies. The joint actions will boost space entrepreneurship and open doors to new generations of innovators in Europe.
  • “After a year of change, EUSPA is now implementing the European Space Programme and delivering on its extended portfolio” – EUSPA Executive Director Rodrigo da Costa. Watch the key highlights from da Costa’s intervention here.
  • Europe as a space power: Commissioner Breton focused on the EU Space ambitions in his keynote speech. From consolidating #EUSpace assets like Galileo and Copernicus to working on new initiatives, innovation and resilience will be the drivers for the EU Space Programme this year.
  • Satellite Navigation is a game changer in European Transport. Considered as a commodity few years ago, it is now a utility strengthening the transport sector through success stories EGNOS for aviation. More than 400 European airports rely on the European SBAS!” – EUSPA  Head of Market, Downstream and Innovation, Fiammetta Diani.

EO & GNSS in action 
  • Launched on 5 December 2021, Galileo satellites 27-28 have reached their orbit! The Payload In Orbit Testing activities - the last stage of the Early Operation Phase - have started. This allows to test the health of the Galileo signals and ensure the entry into service provision in the following months.
  • The Portuguese Space Agency together with the AIR Centre have opened a second call to promote the internationalization of European SMEs developing Copernicus-based products. The deadline to submit your application is on 28 January.
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) was largely involved in monitoring the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano in La Palma. The Copernicus Services documented the evolution, the extent of the lava flow, and the destruction of built-up infrastructure.  
  • Due to the importance of monitoring the snow and ice as key indicators of climate change, the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service is launching the second part of its near real-time, High Resolution Snow and Ice Monitoring products. Learn more.
